Mackintosh Building >

The Mackintosh Building at The Glasgow School of Art was significantly damaged by fire on 15 June 2018, while undergoing a major restoration project following a fire in the west wing (constructed 1907-1909) of the Building on 23 May 2014. The cause of the 2018 fire, while the Building was under the day-to-day management of Kier Construction (Scotland) Ltd, is currently under investigation by Scottish Fire and Rescue Service who will publish their report in due course.

The structure has been stabilised and ongoing site clearance works will continue until mid-2021. At that point the aim is to reduce the current footprint of the site. In parallel with these works, the GSA is considering the next steps for the future of the site.
