Study Abroad
Study Abroad students should ensure their application is submitted in time for the official deadline: 1 April for programmes starting in September and 15 October for those starting in January.
Please note 15 October deadline may NOT be used for EXCHANGE students.
Applications will continue to be reviewed after the deadline, but as space is limited on many programmes, we recommend you submit your application prior to the above dates. All applications will be considered as a group, so January start applications will only be looked at after 15 October deadline.
Exchange
The Glasgow School of Art welcomes applications from students studying at one of our recognised partner institutions. There is only one deadline for incoming Exchange students: 1 May. We are unable to accept applications for exchange after this date due to the high volume of applications we receive. Exchange applications are accepted for Term 1 or Term 2 only in the Schools of Fine Art & Design, except for the Master of European Design Programme. In the Mackintosh School of Architecture we accept applications for Full Year or Semester 1. On our Interaction Design programme students can apply for Term 1 only.
Study Abroad & Exchange Application Forms
All Visiting Students should apply via our Visiting Student Application Portal. All students should use the correct application form, either "Study Abroad" or "Exchange", and adhere to the required deadlines. Exchange students will have to select their home institution from the drop down list in order to be able to use the Exchange Application form.
As part of the online application students will need to complete and upload a Visiting Student Application Approval form, indicating that their home institution is happy to support their application.
Portfolio -all applicants should submit a portfolio as part of their online application. It should be relevant to the subject area to which you are applying, and should clearly evidence your skills in the required medium. Please visit our 'How to Apply' section to view examples of successful portfolios.
Please create an account in the Application Portal from where you will be able to manage your application. The Portal and the application forms work best using either Firefox or Google Chrome.
After completing the online application form:
After you've filled in the form online, uploaded the relevant documents and pressed "submit", please save a copy of the application for yourself on a memory stick/CD. If your portfolio includes moving image work, please provide a link to this in the uploaded materials. Please make sure all this reaches us by the deadline provided.
Your application should contain
- a portfolio of your work - 15-20 images made into a pdf with any video included as a url link (please make sure this url remains live). Please ensure that your portfolio submission is relevant to the subject area to which you are applying.
- two academic references from your home school and
- a personal statement outlining your artistic interests and how you feel these will be met at GSA.
Please note that we CANNOT accept applications on other application forms.
